Common Emergency Issues With Garage Doors

Loss Of Access

It’s not at all uncommon for keys to get lost, to break off in a lock, or for electronic opening devices to just mysteriously refuse to work. We are able to extract broken keys, replace malfunctioning parts of the lock, or even remove an old lock and install a new one all in one trip. Got a high security lock, or perhaps a security system? Not a problem. We can help you with security system issues related to your garage door as well.

Garage Door Off Of Its Track

Probably the most common mechanical issue with a garage door is an inability to fully open or close due to losing alignment with its track. This can happen for quite a few different reasons. Even a moderate impact, such as accidentally bumping the door with a vehicle while parking in the driveway, can be enough to take it out of alignment. It’s also possible that someone attempted to break in forcefully, which usually knocks the door off of its track. The door may also have been descending too fast due to a problem with the cable or a faulty motion sensor.

Whatever the case, the end result of a door coming off of its track is usually that it is stuck in that position until it is fixed. It’s possible it may also only move a short distance and then stop before going through its normal range of motion. For safety reasons, you should never attempt to repair a stuck door on your own, as it will likely cause serious damage if it falls on someone. Instead, call out one of our technicians, who can clear up whatever the issue is regardless of the time of day or night.

Broken Springs

Garage door springs are continually under high pressure, and they do eventually fail due to normal wear and tear. Ideally, regular preventive maintenance checkups will catch signs of the spring wearing and get them replaced for you before this happens. However, if a spring fails on you unexpectedly, it’s no problem for us to fix the issue.

It might be tough to tell if you are dealing with a spring issue or a track issue since the symptom is the same; the door will get stuck and refuse to move. If a spring fails while the door is up, however, it may come crashing back down suddenly. If the door is stuck closed and you don’t know of any impact to it and don’t see any reason to believe someone attempted to break in, then most likely the issue is that you have a spring problem.

As with track alignment issues, it is highly recommended that you call a professional to repair them as the door can end up falling unexpectedly. Our technicians can handle any issues with your garage door springs that crop up at any time, just give us a call for prompt and efficient service.
